Warm Modern Living in Demarest, New Jersey

Featuring O&N's Leuven and Maslow Floating Vanities

Designed and built by M&M Bergen Developers, this contemporary home in Demarest, New Jersey pairs clean modern architecture with a warmer, more residential interior.

Light oak flooring, natural stone, warm wood cabinetry, brass details, and black framed windows are used throughout the home. The palette stays relatively neutral, but the mix of materials keeps the interiors from feeling cold or overly minimal.

From an O&N interior design perspective, one of the things we like most about this project is how that same material palette carries into the bathrooms. The vanities feel connected to the rest of the home rather than selected as standalone pieces.

The project features two O&N designs: the Leuven Floating Vanity in White Oak (HG) and the Maslow Floating Vanity in Coffee.

Primary Bathroom: Leuven Floating Vanity in White Oak (HG)

The primary bathroom is bright and open, with large format stone tile covering both the walls and floor. Brass fixtures add warmth, while a freestanding tub and large window bring attention toward the far end of the room.

Along the opposite wall, the Leuven Floating Vanity in White Oak (HG) becomes one of the main design features.

The Leuven's textured geometric front works particularly well in a bathroom this minimal. There is very little pattern elsewhere in the space, so the detail on the vanity adds depth without introducing another material or color.

The White Oak (HG) finish was also a natural choice for this home. It relates back to the light wood flooring and cabinetry used throughout the interior, creating a subtle connection between the bathroom and the main living spaces.

The floating installation makes a difference as well. Keeping the floor visible underneath the vanity gives the long cabinet a lighter appearance and helps maintain the open feeling of the room.

A clean white countertop sits above the warm oak cabinetry, while brass framed mirrors and fixtures continue the warm metal accents used throughout the house.

The combination is simple, but there is enough texture and variation to keep the bathroom interesting.

Powder Room: Maslow Floating Vanity in Coffee

The powder room takes a different approach with the Maslow Floating Vanity in Coffee.

Because a powder room is a smaller, more self contained space, it offers an opportunity to introduce a little more contrast. The deeper Coffee finish gives the room a strong focal point while still fitting naturally within the warm wood palette used throughout the home.

The Maslow's clean horizontal profile works well against the white walls and simple gray floor tile. Its floating installation keeps the compact room feeling open and leaves more of the flooring visible.

A crisp white countertop creates contrast against the Coffee cabinetry, while the brass faucet and sculptural brass framed mirror add warmth above it.

We especially like the choice of a darker vanity here. Instead of repeating the lighter White Oak used in the primary bathroom, the Coffee finish gives the powder room its own identity.

It's a different expression of the same overall design language.

Carrying the Material Palette Through the Home

Looking beyond the bathrooms helps explain why both vanity selections work so well.

The home's kitchen features warm wood cabinetry, light stone surfaces, brass hardware, and pale oak flooring. Similar wood tones continue through the dining room, bedrooms, and other living spaces.

Instead of matching every wood finish exactly, the design uses different shades within the same warm family.

The Leuven in White Oak (HG) picks up the home's lighter oak tones, while the Maslow in Coffee introduces a darker variation. Both feel connected to the overall interior without making the bathrooms look identical.

This kind of continuity is something we look for when selecting bathroom furniture for a whole home. The goal isn't necessarily to repeat the same vanity in every bathroom. It's to choose pieces that relate to one another and to the materials already used throughout the house.

The O&N Perspective

Floating vanities work especially well in contemporary homes because they can feel more integrated with the architecture than traditional floor standing cabinetry.

This Demarest project shows two different ways to use them.

The Leuven Floating Vanity in White Oak (HG) brings texture and character to a large primary bathroom while keeping the overall palette light and natural.

The Maslow Floating Vanity in Coffee takes a simpler approach, using its darker wood tone and clean profile to give a smaller bathroom more definition.

Together, they show that bathroom vanities don't have to match from room to room. With the right finishes and proportions, different collections can still feel connected as part of one home.

For this residence, that connection comes through warm wood, clean lines, simple stone surfaces, and subtle brass details - a combination that feels modern without losing warmth.
